Born in Freeport, New York, Donald Fitzgerald embraced fashion at an early age. At fourteen, he started taking fashion illustration classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology - Design For High School Students. This opened up a whole new world of fashion artists to him. One of whom was especially inspirational was the late, great Antonio Lopez, whose work continues to influence Donald today. Soon after, Donald was accepted to the F.I.T. Fashion Design program and years later, he returned to study Patternmaking.   Donald Fitzgerald worked as a patternmaker for Laura Bennett who was a finalist on Project Runway, Season 3 as well as Randi Rahm, an American couturier. Combining these experiences with his various inspirations – Japanese anime, comic books, urban culture, sports, haute couture – Donald transforms his designs into wearable garments of art.
